Loss or Grief

Grief is the emotion that you feel after a significant loss, such as the death of a loved one. You may feel many different painful emotions as part of the grieving process. Feelings of shock, sadness, heartache, anger, depression, anxiety and denial are a few of the more common symptoms, but grieving is highly personal and each individual will have a unique experience and timeline.

Although typically thought of as an emotional experience, the stress of grief can also result in physical problems like insomnia, changes in weight, lack of energy, and general aches and pains. There is no right or wrong way to grieve but a mental health professional can help you to find healthy ways to cope with the pain and, ultimately, to move on.
