I am a highly experienced therapist who specialises in the field of addictions and the problems that drugs, alcohol or problem gambling cause. I treat both the addict and/or the families and partners affected by the addiction. I have worked both in a Hospital setting at a major London Private Hospital for 16 years running the Addictions Units and programmes and in Private Practice for 18 years. I worked in California at various rehab centres treating clients with substance abuse. I also visited various American Treatment Centres to study methods of treatment regarding problem gambling, cocaine, crystal meth, heroin, ketamine and prescription and party drugs. I have further specialised in cannabis/skunk users and problem gamblers, but have also dealt extensively with co-existing issues such as general mental health disorders including Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Self Esteem, Relationship, Anger and Motivational problems. I also treat the families and partners who are affected by someone else’s addiction or abuse.
I utilise an integrative therapeutic approach combining CBT (Cognitive Behavoural Therapy), MET (Motivational Enhancement Therapy), Psychodynamic and the Minnesota Model where appropriate. I have completed supplementary courses in Relapse Prevention and Brief Solution Based Therapy
As well as a counsellor I am a practised lecturer/presenter and have given lectures to Mental Health Professionals and GPs’ on Alcohol and Drug Addiction and Pathological Gambling both here and in America. I set up a Problem Gambling Unit at a private hospital. My previous occupation was as a television scriptwriter and Screenwriting tutor.
