BA(Hons) Person-Centred CounsellingCall Now
My experience in counselling has led to a special interest in supporting women to grow their self-esteem, develop trust in themselves and find their inner strength and voice. Do you feel that your upbringing and our society has told you to stop making a fuss and that your voice and your opinion do not matter? Are you your harshest critic, never feeling good enough? You might be tired and exhausted of pretending to be alright. Maybe you don’t recognise yourself and feel trapped and alone. Perhaps you suffer from anxiety and depression. I offer you a warm, non-judgemental space to talk about your difficulties and problems. Being heard, understood and accepted in therapy helps you to find your confidence and your way forward. In a welcoming environment, you can become more accepting of yourself and discover and develop your abilities. As we all have different experiences, I believe that you know yourself best, so I will follow your lead. I trust you will find me empathic, authentic and supportive in finding your power and your resilience. My main experience is working with women who have survived domestic and sexual abuse. You can have counselling with me online from anywhere in the UK and Europe, in person in W4, SW5 and for Walk and Talk Therapy in W5. Walk and Talk Therapy supports you in finding your sense of control. Instead of sitting in a room, we will be walking alongside each other. You will determine the pace, decide if you would like to sit down for a while or engage with your surroundings. Being outdoors can feel liberating. Walk and talk Therapy combines counselling and exercise with the restorative benefits of interacting with nature. In an initial free telephone conversation, you can tell me what you hope to achieve from counselling. It is an opportunity for you to get to know me and to see how therapy with me might work. After the first session we can decide if we are a good fit for each other. We will then have regular reviews of our work.
I am a Person-Centred counsellor. It is a therapeutic approach that agrees with my personal belief that everybody has the potential to grow and to have a fulfilling life if the right conditions are provided. It is a hopeful and empowering way of being. My job is to create with you an environment in which you feel safe, heard and acknowledged. It is a safe space in which you can bring anything that is on your mind.
My passion for counselling was kindled by having counselling myself. After volunteering for the Samaritans, I studied Person-Centred Counselling at the Metanoia Institute in London. For three years I volunteered counselling women from various social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds who all experienced domestic violence. I am a middle-aged, white, German woman, living in London for almost 20 years. Because I find the difference and diversity of humans enriching, I am open and curious to learn about people’s experiences. I'm convinced that acknowledging our differences will bring us closer together and also helps us to understand ourselves better. That does not mean that I think I am without prejudice and bias. It means that I am rather passionate to overcome them. My professional background has changed from working as a waitress, being a bookseller and working as an office manager. I am currently in the process of building up my private practice while still working part time.
